How much weight can I carry in the box?

Tesseract doesn’t publish a separate load rating for its boxes, so the limit to follow is your machine’s: the rated load of the rack, or of the cargo bed for a UTV box, given in the owner’s manual. The empty box counts toward that limit, and so does everything you put in it. Each product page lists the box’s weight and volume.

Work out what you can load

Take the rated load from the owner’s manual and subtract the weight of the empty box. What’s left is what you can put inside.

For example, the 120 L rear box for the Polaris Sportsman 850 / XP 1000 weighs 8.8 kg (19.4 lb). If your manual allows 45 kg (100 lb) on the rear rack, about 36 kg (80 lb) is left for what you carry in the box.

How much the boxes weigh

  • Passenger seat boxes: 2.6–3 kg (5.7–6.6 lb)
  • Front boxes: 6.5 kg (14.3 lb)
  • Rear ATV boxes: 5–10.7 kg (11–23.6 lb)
  • UTV boxes: 7.5–13 kg (16.5–28.7 lb)

The exact weight of each box is on its product page, under Specs.

Volume is not a weight rating

The litres on the product page say how much fits, not how much the machine can carry. A box full of clothes and a box full of tools or chains weigh very different amounts, and with heavy gear you can reach the rack’s limit long before the box is full.

Overloading

Damage from overloading the box or the rack isn’t covered by the warranty. Keep within the rated load, and put the heaviest items at the bottom of the box so they don’t shift while you ride.
