Do I need tools to install the box?

Usually not. Most Tesseract boxes fasten with quick-release fasteners that go into the holes your rack already has and tighten by hand, in 30 seconds to a minute. A few boxes bolt down instead and need a screwdriver. The product page lists what comes in the box and links to the installation manual.

Boxes with quick-release fasteners

Most rear and front boxes for ATVs, and many UTV boxes, come with quick-release fasteners, usually four. You set the box on the rack, insert the fasteners into the holes made for them and tighten them by hand. There’s nothing to drill and no brackets to fit. Removing the box is just as quick.

Boxes that bolt on

Some boxes are held by bolts instead. For example, the rear box for the Polaris Scrambler comes with 4 bolts, and the cargo boxes for the Kawasaki Teryx KRX 1000 and the Honda Talon need a screwdriver. Check the product page: its “In the box” line lists the fasteners or mounting kit, and the manual shows the steps.

Passenger seat boxes

A few compact boxes go in place of the passenger seat rather than on the rack. They come with their own mounting kit; the product page and manual show how they fit.

Tips for a tight fit

  • Clean the rack holes and the rubber parts of the fasteners before you fit them. Dirt and oil keep the fasteners from gripping.
  • Tighten the fasteners firmly by hand.
  • Check that they’re still tight before a long ride.
